Change the LPC capacitor
(v0.1)

It
happens
quite
a few
times
too often
people
make their
Xbox nothing
more than
a pile
of scrap
because
they accidentally
rip off
the capacitor
near the
LPC port.
Since
this is
just a
little
ceramic
capacitor,
everyone
who can
install
a modchip
should
be able
to install
a new
capacitor.
Their
cheap
(about
$1, -
; for
the people
over here
in Europe
€1,-)
and available
form your
local
electronics-dealer/handyman.

The
only problem
is that
when the
capacitor
broke
off you
are unable
to measure
the capacitance
of this
component.
Someone
should
de-solder
this component
from a
working
box and
measure
it. But
hey, would
you do
that?
I got
my hands
on a broken
Xbox with
a broken
capacitor.
I took
my own
Xbox and
de-soldered
the sucker,
measured
it and
replaced
it. The
capacitance
of this
component
is about
4nF. I
replaced
it with
a capacitor
of this
capacitance
and it
works
a treat!
Any
capacitor
of this
value
will do.
If you
find it
easier
to install
a conventional
one just
do so.
When installing
a conventional
capacitor
I advice
to stick
it to
the motherboard
with some
melting-glue
or tape.
I’ve
installed
a larger
SMD capacitor.
To make
it fit
I scraped
of the
green
paint
and soldered
it in.
To install
SMD components
you should
have pliers
(use your
mom’s!)
and preferably
a special
SMD soldering
iron.
Beware
not to
burn the
capacitor
or traces
on the
board
with a
conventional
soldering
iron.
Happy
Modding!
