XBOX USB-mini-HUB
(v0.1)
Tutorial

I
wanted
to use
a keyboard
and other
USB devices
to use
in the
XBOX,
but didn’t
want to
unplug
my game
pads to
use a
self-made
USB connector
at the
front.
So I started
this little
project
to build
a mini-USB
HUB inside
the XBOX,
I guess
I’m
not the
first
to do
this but
I’ve
took some
nice pictures.
If someone
likes
to do
this,
this is
the way
I did
it:
Bought
a mini-USB
thingy
like in
the picture
bellow,

Ok,
it is
a little
USB-hub
but way
to big
to fit
in the
XBOX,
so take
it apart!

Remove
the USB
connectors,
and put
the led’s
lower
(or remove
them).
Put the
crystal
in a flat
position.

Put
it in
the XBOX!

I
cut the
wires
from port
4 (don’t
cut the
yellow
one) and
soldered
them in
the proper
way to
the USB-hub.
(If you
don’t
know how
to do
this,
I think
you shouldn’t
be doing
this).
Find a
nice spot
to put
the USB
thingy
(you should
have measured
cable
length
and where
you want
to put
the hub
before
cutting
:-) )
I
put it
in like
this,
but I
bet there
are better
ways to
do it:

Notice
the two
little
green
wires
on the
hub, they
make the
ground
connection
if you
remove
the USB
connectors
from the
HUB.
Putting
the XBOX
together

Don’t
forget
to power
the hub
with 5Volt
power
supply,
I did
this by
taking
the 5v
from the
hard disk
cable
with a
self made
power
extension
cable.
Now
the big
question
did it
work?
At
first
I thought
I didn’t
need the
5v power
supply.
I putted
in the
XBOX controller
under
Linux,
and Linux
told me
the cable
maybe
bad.
So you
need the
5v power
supply
for the
controller
to work
(it uses
to much
power,
the USB-DVD
remote
worked
without
the 5v).
The
XBOX controller
does not
work with
the XBOX
software;
the DVD
remote
and my
racing
wheel
worked
fine,
why is
that?
I figured
the XBOX
software
(BIOS?)
doesn’t
allows
more than
one HUB
after
the internal
original
hub.
The XBOX-controller
has an
internal
HUB (3
ports),
the DVD
dongle
and racing
wheel
don’t
have an
internal
HUB so
they work.
Now
lets wait
until
someone
patches
the USB
software
of the
XBOX (allowing
more hubs),
so I can
use my
XBOX-controller
