Ok,
now before
anyone
thinks
i'm a
stud for
figuring
this out,
don't!
cause
i've just
applied
several
things
that i've
learned
from other
tutorials
and for
all i
know there
might
be another
tutorial
out there
that's
exactly
like this
one
As always,
i'm not
responsible
for you
totally
F%#@ing
up your
xbox,
but if
you follow
these
directions
exactly
it should
work for
you
okay,
here goes
This tutorial
will explain
how to
install
evolution-x
with a
large
hard drive
and xbox
live funtionality
without
use of
any mod
chip
Warning,
this mod
will only
work on
xboxes
with 1mb
bioses
(1.0/1.1)
Tools
Needed:
1-radio
shack
switch
model
#275-712
2-007
auf
3-soldering
iron
4-solder
5-wire
6-electrical
tape
7-a drill
(for installing
the switch)
8-xbox
action
replay/mem
card
Okay
here goes
Step
1
Crack
open the
xbox and
take the
motherboard
out
Step
2
Install
The Switch
Drill
a hole
on the
back for
the switch
and install
it there
inbetween
the network
adapter
and the
a/v plug.
Orient
the switch
so that
the "on"
side of
the switch
is facing
the network
adapter
you should
have plenty
of room
to mount
the switch,
i drilled
a 11/2
in hole,
and then
mount
it with
2 part
apoxy.
You might
wonder
why do
this step
now, it's
because
now is
the easiest
time to
do it
Step
3
Join the
tsop jumpers
You will
locate
the two
jumpers
for enabling
tsop flashing
(for pics
on the
location
of the
two jumpers
go here
http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/tsop-images.php)
Step
4
Wiring
the switch
(this
can be
a little
tricky,
but don't
get discouraged,
it'll
be worth
it)
First
take three
lengths
of wire,
2 about
8 inches,
the other
about
12-14
inches
Take the
longer
strand
of wire,
and solder
one end
of it
to the
A-19 point
on the
bottom
of the
xbox motherboard

Use
electrical
tape to
secure
the wire
and run
it to
the middle
point
on your
switch
Second,
wire one
of the
smaller
wires
to the
VCC 3.3
point
shown
here

Run
this wire
to the
power
point
on the
switch
(if you
mounted
the switch
correctly,
this point
should
be on
the right-hand
side of
the xbox
when looking
straight
down)
Third,
solder
a wire
to a metal
point
on the
chassis
of the
xbox itself
and run
this wire
to the
ground
point
on the
switch.
VERY
IMPORTANT:
Make sure
you use
plenty
of electrical
tape around
the switch,
and securing
the wires,
I fried
two xboxes
because
i wasn't
being
careful
Step
5
Flashing
The Tsop
If you
are installing
a large
hard drive
leave
the case
open,
if you
are going
to keep
the 8/10gig
drive,
close
the case
up
First,
on your
pc you
will need
to make
a bios
image
that's
512k (most
distributed
bioses
are 1mb
or 256k)
To do
this take
a 256k
bios from
xbins
(i use
xecuter
4977)
and open
it in
bios tool
(can be
found
on #xbins)
Make sure
you choose
a color
like blue
so that
you can
tell which
is which
when you
start
it up.
there
is an
option
in the
program
to save
the bios
as 256,
512 or
1mb, choose
512 and
pick a
name for
it like
"512kbios"
also,
remember
where
you saved
the file
Second,
you need
to get
the files
on to
your xbox,
so you
can either
use the
007 hack
and then
ftp them
to the
"bios"
folder
in your
gamesaves
directory,
or you
can build
your own
mem card
save and
put the
file in
yourself
(that's
what I
did) To
do it
this way,
download
the 007
exploit
with evox
from #xbins.
Open up
the save
and get
the evox
directory,
there
you should
see a
bios folder,
put it
in there
and delete
the linux
one that
should
be in
one of
the folders
(basically
delete
everything
that you
don't
need since
you have
to get
the file
small
enough
to fit
on a mem
card)
To accomplish
this I
just delete
all the
skins.
Third,
Once you
get this
save on
your hard
drive,
fire up
007 and
load the
save.
Once in
evox,
go the
flash
bios option,
you should
see your
"512kbios"
sitting
there.
Before
you flash,
make sure
that the
switch
is on
(it should
be lit
up when
on) if
the light
on the
switch
will not
light
then you
have wired
it incorrectly.
If you
don't
have the
switch
on the
correct
side you
will probably
destroy
your xbox.
If you
have it
switched
and lit
up, then
choose
flash
bios.
If everything
goes correctly,
it will
flash
and shut
off. Turn
it back
on and
your x
should
be blue
(or whatever
color
you chose).
Now turn
the xbox
off, flip
the switch
and turn
it on
again,
it should
be green.
I know
this will
be very
exiting
for you,
but settle
down,
there's
more work
to do
Step
6
If you
are using
the 8/10
gig hard
drive,
install
evox now
(either
using
slayers
or any
other
method
you prefer)
If you
are using
a larger
hard drive
install
it now,
and i
would
recommend
using
slayers
to set
it up.
Make sure
you use
the option
of making
it xbox
live ready
(basically
renaming
msxboxdash.xbe
to xboxdash.xbe,
you can
do this
manually
but using
slayer's
make you
feel cool)
Start
up with
the smaller
hard drive
again
and use
the 007
trick
to load
evox.
Choose
the backup
option
so that
you can
save your
eeprom
settings
Pull those
backup
files
off your
xbox onto
your computer
Put the
large
hard drive
back in,
load up
config
magic
(you can
find this
on #xbins)
make sure
you've
sent your
eeprom
from your
computer
to the
big hard
drive
on the
xbox.
Choose
"load
eeprom
from bin
file"
in config
magic
and load
the one
you just
sent to
the xbox.
Update
the eeprom,
then make
sure that
you lock
the hard
drive
(failure
to do
either
one of
these
will result
in getting
your ass
kicked
off xblive)
Once everything
is done,
turn it
off, switch
over to
you regular
dashboard
(green
load screen)
then start
it up.
If the
msdash
loads
then you've
done everything
correctly.
Insert
a xbox
live game,
update
the dashboard,
connect
to xbox
live.
Viola!
isn't
that great?
Now don't
e-mail
me saying
that you
can't
use your
backups
on xblive
(duh!)
or that
you got
banner
using
a regular
game (this
will happen
if you
have the
switch
on)
anyway,
have fun
with this
one
