X2 Pro Incognito Case Mod (v0.1)

I decided to rip apart my X2 Pro like 2 days before the XS Pro Case Mod tutorial came out, so when it did come out, I felt like I was copying and didn’t do the tutorial, but eventually I thought, “Hey, maybe someone can get an idea out of this,” so here it is:

I transport my Xbox quite often because all of my stupid friends (minus one) are all PS2 owners that want to see and play with my modded Xbox, but don’t want to buy/mod one. Eventually my Xbox made the thousand mile trip down to Florida, and the programmer finally ripped off for the last time, destroying my FCC cable in the process. After buying a new one FCC cable, I decided to pull the switch off of the X2 Pro programmer and put it on the front of the Xbox and put the parallel port in the back. After realizing how useless the parallel port is to me (I only use it once every few months, other than that I use Evolution X), I decided to put the switches on the front and the rest inside.

If at anytime you don’t understand my directions, please refer to this tutorial, which is the first X2 Pro case mod.

Materials Needed

1. Soldering iron
2. Solder
3. De-soldering tool or de-soldering wire
4. Electrical tape
5. 2-3 feet of telephone wire
6. A small nut and bolt (like in Erector sets)
7. 2 small washers (like in Erector sets)
8. A Dremmel tool or similar appliance
9. A descent glue, like modeling glue

The Programmer

1. Disconnect the programmer from everything. Being VERY CAREFUL, remove the double stick tape on the bottom of the programmer. You really only need to remove the stuff on the side of the switch.

2. Use a soldering iron and a de-soldering tool or some de-soldering wire to take off the switch. Be sure to de-solder all eight points before trying to remove the switch. Wiggle it a little bit, and if that doesn’t work, CAREFULLY remove it with a flat head screw driver. I say careful because when I did it, all the prongs got bent and the top fell off and the switches fell out and it took me like 10 minutes to piece back together.

3. Examine how one side (the right side) of the programmer all four holes are connected. This is your ground. On the other side (the left side) is the power.

This is where my programmer is:

And this is the close up of the switch area:

4. Cut off three 2” sections from you telephone wire. Cut off that outside covering on them so you have twelve 2” long wires. Trim and tin both ends of at least 10 of them so that you have some nice pretty wires to work with.

5. Solder ON THE LEFT SIDE in order from top to bottom these four wires: Black, Red, Green, Yellow. This gives you stems to solder your telephone wire to.

6. Next, solder an extra wire to one of your small washers. You could just ground it to the screw, but it doesn’t matter. Solder that last wire into the RIGHT SIDE of your chip, in any one of the four holes.

7. Lastly, tape up all metal parts sticking out, including your parallel port, just to be safe. When you are don’t it should look something like this:

The Switches

1. This is where things are a little bit tougher. Remove the front of your Xbox by using a screw driver to pull the tabs back on both sides and the tab up in the middle. Use this if you need help.

2. After disconnecting all of the extra wires, whip out the Dremmel tool. Use it to cut a hole BARELY big enough to fit your switches, when you test it, it should look like this:

3. Take the switch out and flip it over so that the prongs are up. Solder together the bottom four prongs and solder these 2” wires to the top prongs from left to right; yellow, green, red, black.

4. Solder an extra wire to a washer (this time you have to) and then solder the other end to the prongs you soldered together.

5. Glue your switch into the front plate of the Xbox. Make sure your glue job is really pretty and clean. Let it sit for a while (a few hours). While you are letting your glue dry, go find as many coins as you can, cash them, and send them to my paypal account.

6. When your glue is dry, line up the front of the Xbox to the rest of the Xbox, but don’t put it on yet. Use the little nut and blot to bolt the washer the metal case, then thread the other four wires through those little holes:

7. Making sure that everything is in place, lock the front of the Xbox back into place.

Final Wiring

1. Take about an inch of covering off of one end of the telephone wire and strip and tin those four wires.

2. Match up each color to the corresponding color by the switch in the front of the Xbox. Solder each pair together, and use electrical tape to make sure they don’t touch.

3. Slide the telephone wiring down into the space between the black USB/controller “things” and the metal case. Keep going until you reach the back of the connecter for the hdd and the DVD drives. From that point, add another eight inches and cut the rest off.

4. Cut back the cover about an inch, trim and tin the ends, and solder them to their corresponding wires on the programmer. Again, use electrical tape to make sure none of them touch.

5. With the wire that has the first washer on it, screw it under the screw just above the small fan (as in the second picture).

Now, just make sure everything works, then try and fit everything into place. The only problems you might get are from the DVD drive’s “legs” that can’t reach all the way down because the telephone wire is blocking the way. Your finished product should look like this:
