Amazon Gets Xbox Live Store
>> From gamasutra.com:
Online retailer Amazon now has its own Xbox Live store. The retailer recently entered the arena of used games, and already has a downloadable PC game store -- and will now add Microsoft Points, XBLA games, and other subscriptions to its offering.
The new Amazon Xbox Live Store is currently in beta, and becomes the only other outlet besides Xbox Live Marketplace itself through which consumers can buy games and points digitally.
Customers who make purchases via Amazon's store will receive a download code they can use on Xbox Live Marketplace. The store beta launches with about 100 titles available, including Braid and Castle Crashers.
Nielsen report reveals average game console usage
>> From edge-online.com:
The research firm said Wii owners used their consoles 6.8 percent of the total amount of time that they could have used the system during Nielsen's measurement period during December 2008. This compares to Xbox 360's "Active User Percentage" of 10.2 percent and PS3's 10.6 percent, which both led the way amongst current and last-gen consoles.
In average usage days, Wii trailed all other consoles except for GameCube with five days (GameCube had 4.5 days). PS3 and Xbox 360 were used 6.8 and 7.1 days average, respectively.
Wii also was last in terms of daily average number of sessions with 1.78 sessions, versus 2.42 for PS3 and 2.15 for Xbox 360.
Xbox Live Arcade titles getting out of their comfort zone
>> From examiner.com:
Two new Xbox Live Arcade titles hit tomorrow and they seem...well, a bit greedy. Capcom's alien shepherd title Flock will run at $15 (1200 MSP) and some puzzle game that rehashes Bejeweled and Hexic called Puzzle Quest: Galactrix will require $20 (1600 MSP) for purchase.
XBLA titles are generally successful on the basis that they're worth what they cost; Braid dared to ask $15 of your hard earned cash. There was plenty of upheaval over the price until people got their hands on it and came to the consensus that it may be the best 'little' game of all time.
It doesn't appear Flock or Puzzle Quest has that kind of potential. Even when the games are inevitably discounted the price will still seem high.
XBMC for Xbox SVN rev19213 9.04-alpha1 build - T3CH
>> T3CH released a new SVN compile (rev19213 9.04-alpha1) of XBMC for Xbox(info). This T3CH-compile is a complete snapshot of what is in SVN at the time the build was compiled, with just a few small additions.
Special Notes and Noteworthy/XML/Script changes: * The first alpha release of XBMC 9.04, codenamed "Babylon". I've extensively tested this build and it seems really stable. Looking at the SVN log, team XBMC fixed a lot of bugs before getting this alpha1 out. I have high hopes this release will be the start of a bright future for the upcoming 9.04 stable release. * All known memory issues the previous releases had, should be fixed now. * Additionally it contains a few important security fixes. * Check out the full changelog since the March 04th 2009 Svn Rev18221 build here
Keep in mind this is a SVN snapshot of the current development tree. It's not an official (stable) point release. Use only if you know what you are doing.
